The football players of FC Twente have closed the Eredivisie season with a defeat at PSV. The Eindhoven women were 2-1 too strong for the national champion from Twente in their own home and thus qualified for the Champions League.
PSV, the number two in the Pure Energie Eredivisie Women’s ranking, immediately put Twente under pressure and took the lead after ten minutes of play. Joëlle Smits, who will leave for top club VfL Wolfsburg after this season, tapped the ball into the far corner and opened the score.
However, Twente also wanted to end the season in style and went looking for the equalizer. That came via a header from striker Fenna Kalma.
Both teams looked for the attack in the remainder of the game, but it took a long time until another goal was scored. Fifteen minutes before the end it was Kayleigh van Dooren who outplayed goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar and PSV took the lead again.
Ajax bends 2-0 backlog
The Ajax women were heading for a disappointing end of the season for a long time. ADO Den Haag was ahead 2-0 with fifteen minutes left, but the Amsterdam club eventually won 5-3 in The Hague.
Nikita Tromp was accurate twice in two minutes and Vanity Lewerissa completed the Amsterdam party. She found the net twice within three minutes and gave Ajax the victory.
ADO also scored in the final phase, but Ajax’s victory was no longer in danger. Victoria Pelova also scored the 5-3 on a pass from Lewerissa.
