TSV Brand Women’s Soccer Team Tackles Self-Defense Amid Rising Concerns

Empowering Athletes Through Self-Defense Training

in response to growing anxieties surrounding violence against women, the women’s soccer team of Gymnastics and sports club Brand 66 e. V.(TSV Brand) recently completed an intensive self-defense and self-assertion course. The training, held throughout February and March at The Club of the Eckon Eckon in the Vack, aimed to equip the athletes with essential skills to navigate possibly dangerous situations.

Expert Instruction and Tactical Training

The course was led by Bernd Kirschenheuter, a seasoned martial artist with expertise in Ju-Jutsu and specialized training in women’s self-security and violence prevention. Kirschenheuter emphasized the importance of early recognition of threats and setting clear boundaries. A clear and early ‘no’ would often help and take care of the necessary attention in everyday life,he stated, highlighting the power of assertive dialog.

Kirschenheuter’s assertion is backed by research suggesting that a strong initial response can deter potential attackers. Studies show that when a victim confidently resists an initial advance, the aggressor is less likely to persist.

Assisting Kirschenheuter were Taekwondo experts Emma Prini Gerhard and Sylvana Merkl. Together, they focused on building the team’s self-assurance and imparting tactical movements designed to de-escalate conflicts or evade dangerous scenarios altogether.

Practical Skills and Preventative Measures

Leveraging their existing fitness and athletic prowess, the TSV Brand footballers quickly grasped fundamental striking and escape techniques. The training covered not only physical self-defense but also proactive strategies for avoiding perilous situations.

While the course provided valuable tools for self-protection, the ultimate goal remains prevention. As one team member noted, the ideal outcome is to avoid ever needing to use these skills in a real-world confrontation.

Taekwondo Training Chance

For those interested in exploring martial arts, the Taekwondo Group offers training sessions every Wednesday at the Georg-Hänfling-Halle, parish garden 1, 90542 Eckental. Beginners train from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., followed by advanced students from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The Growing Need for Self-Defense Education

The TSV Brand’s proactive approach underscores a growing awareness of the need for self-defense education, notably among women. With self defense classes becoming increasingly popular [[2]], individuals are seeking practical skills and strategies to enhance their personal safety and security.

“It is indeed better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war.”
