A magnitude 2.9 earthquake struck the province of Naples in the Campi Flegrei area at 3:30 AM local time. The epicenter was located two kilometers from Pozzuoli.

According to data from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (Ingv), the earthquake’s hypocenter was only three kilometers deep. Authorities report no damage to people or property. The same area experienced two earthquakes of magnitude 3.6 and 3.7 three days prior.

The earthquake had a hypocenter just three kilometers of depth and epicenter two km from Pozzuoli.

This region is characterized by a caldera, a large cauldron-like hollow that forms after the collapse of a volcano following a major eruption.
