Figueres reactivates culture – Diari de Girona


After months in the middle of the gas due to the pandemic and the first taste of the Acoustics Nights, Figueres starts a season this month in which for the first time the programming of all the cultural facilities and festivals of the city has been unified. Only in the section of performing arts and music programmed from Figueres Cultura there are about twenty proposals, to which must be added those of other programmers, such as La Cate or Joventuts Musicals de Figueres, and festivals that had ‘postpone due to the health situation, such as this week’s Jazz, the Comic or the Figueres moves.

Of the twenty or so performing arts proposals, eleven have been rescheduled after confinement, such as The birds of The Caloric or The woman of the 600. New features include, for example, I love you if I drank by Dagoll Dagom, T de Teatre and La Brutal, with text by Empar Moliner and direction by David Selvas or the monologue Exceptional things, with Pau Roca.

The large-format productions that can be seen at the Teatre Municipal el Jardí are the urban dance show Around the world of Brodas Bros, i the first national circus production State of emergency, that after its premiere this summer at the Grec will tour various stages in Girona.

In the musical section, as a complement to the postponed performances of Albert Pla, Marc Parrot and Anna Roig, the only function planned in the Girona region of the fusion on the art stage of Paula Bonet and the music by Ramón Rodríguez of The New Raemon, What a bad memory.

As for the family audience, you can see the Asteroid street show by the company Campi Qui Pugui or an adaptation of Patufet by Teatre Nu.

These proposals, among others, are joined by three postponed concerts by Joventuts Musicals de Figueres, with the Bärhof Ensemble, Laia Fabra and Marta Viñas i Criatures, and the usual La Cate program with amateur theater, the musical cycle 66 seats with the postponed concerts of Rusó Sala, Ferran Palau and Marina Herlop, classical cinema and opera screenings, among others.

Ticket sales begin this afternoon at the Garden box office and on the web, but can only be purchased tickets for the postponed shows and the new ones for September and October. The rest will be opened month by month, to adapt to current regulations.

The Jazz Festival, ready

As for the postponed festivals and readapted to the context of the coronavirus, they will start tomorrow with the 26th Figueres Jazz Festival. It will run until Sunday and will feature Jazz Ladies and Professor Cunningham and His Old School as headliners.

The Comic Festival, originally planned for Easter, will take place from 16 to 20 September with shows such as Pepa Plana and Noël Olivé You see you don’t see; The gallant Spanish d’en Peyu o El Soterrani, Monologues in Catalan. This year’s edition will close with Quim Masferrer Good people.

From the 4th to the 11th of October, the seventh edition of Figueres es Mou is scheduled, which, despite the circumstances, wants to fill the streets of the Alt-Empordà dance capital with local shows.

Empordà artists

The exhibition stands out in the programming of the Museu de l’Empordà Paint, create, live. Women artists in the Alt Empordà (1830-1939), scheduled from October 3 to January 10. This is an approach to thirty-one artists, born between 1830 and 1939 in the region or who settled there, some of whom have been recognized, while others have had to be rescued from the oblit. The show is the result of important research, also in family and institutional funds, to shed some light on female creation.

The eleventh edition of Empordaneses is also planned, which will pay tribute to the figure of Narcís Monturiol coinciding with the 200th anniversary of his birth.
