“Failing” operators will exit the market for school kits and benches

APA – The operators awarded contracts for the delivery of school kits, tables, benches, vehicles and other equipment that have been “failed” will be removed from the list of tenderers.

The announcement was made on Thursday in Abidjan by the Minister of National Education and Literacy, Professor Mariatou Koné, upon receiving the report of a joint monitoring mission led by her ministry and that of the budget and portfolio. of the State in ten regional directorates of National Education and Literacy (DRENA) drawn by lot.

This 58-person strong mission crisscrossed these regional directorates for two weeks where it noted “malfunctions in the distribution of school kits, table-benches, administrative vehicles and other equipment”.

The mission deplored on the ground the quality of school kits and desks in several establishments. “We must review the distribution mechanism,” recommended the Minister of National Education and Literacy, Professor Mariatou Koné.

The budget made available to the Ministry of National Education and Literacy in 2021 made it possible to acquire 5,162,730 school kits and 191,474 tables-benches.

“Acquisitions are made according to expressed needs,” she explained, lamenting that he has residual kits (not distributed). “We are arrested. We must get out of the file, the failing operators who do not deliver quality and quantity, ”concluded Mariatou Koné.

The control and verification mission should ensure the quality but also the effectiveness of the distribution of school kits and tables-benches to the final beneficiaries.

In terms of kits, the mission found that out of 818,036 kits delivered, 672,433 kits were actually distributed, i.e. 82% against 145,603 residual stocks, i.e. 18% of kits in stock.
