Di Giannantonio Aims for Repeat Victory at Qatar MotoGP
“Diggia” Rides High on Confidence After Austin Podium
Fabio di Giannantonio, affectionately known as “Diggia,” is heading to the Qatar MotoGP with renewed vigor following a strong performance at the Red bull Grand Prix of the Americas. The VR46 Ducati rider secured a podium finish in Austin, a result that has substantially boosted his confidence as he approaches the Lusail International Circuit.
Overcoming Early Season Challenges
The season began with setbacks for di Giannantonio, including a collarbone injury sustained during testing in Sepang. However, his determination and the support of the VR46 team have propelled him forward. His third-place finish in Austin felt like a triumph, especially considering the challenges he faced earlier in the season.
While the Thailand Grand Prix presented difficulties due to his physical condition and the intense heat, resulting in a retirement in the sprint race and a tenth-place finish in the main race, Argentina marked a turning point. Two fifth-place finishes demonstrated the potential that many expect from a rider with a factory-spec Ducati, the same machinery as championship contenders like Pecco Bagnaia and Marc marquez.
Qatar: A Circuit of Fond Memories
The Qatar-GP holds special importance for di Giannantonio, as it was the site of his first and, to date, only MotoGP victory in 2023. He expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming race, stating:
The route in Losail is incredible and has always given me great emotions in recent years. After the great result in the United States, we come even more excited to Qatar. I think we can be very fast and put together a very good package.
Focus on Planning and Qualifying
Di Giannantonio emphasizes the importance of consistent performance throughout the weekend, notably in the practice sessions and qualifying.A strong starting position, as demonstrated by his second-place start in Austin, is crucial for success in both the sprint and the main race.
He affirmed his commitment to meticulous preparation, stating, The most critically important thing is that we stay focused all weekend and prepare optimally for the races to be on the podium again.
The competitive Landscape
While di Giannantonio aims for a repeat victory in Qatar, he faces stiff competition from the likes of the Marquez brothers, Bagnaia, and his own teammate, Franco Morbidelli. These riders will undoubtedly be doing everything in their power to prevent him from reaching the top step of the podium.
