EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has rejected calls for a pan-European army. At a security conference in Norway, she said an additional European force alongside NATO would be “extremely, extremely dangerous.”
According to Kallas, a second army within Europe would lead to unclear chains of command and thus weaken the common defense capability. If you are part of NATO, you cannot set up a separate army, she explained.

Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre also opposed the idea of an EU army. He emphasized NATO’s central role in Europe’s security and warned against dual structures in defense policy. The discussion about a European army recently flared up again after several politicians in Brussels and Paris called for closer military cooperation between EU states.
