EU–NATO Cooperation in the Southern Neighbourhood: Confronting Challenges, Seizing Opportunities

Brussels

5 November 2025

Europe’s Southern Neighbourhood and the wider Mediterranean region sit at the intersection of global competition, instability and opportunity. From the Sahel to the Levant, the region faces complex challenges. Yet it also offers immense potential for cooperation and resilience-building between Europe and its partners.

This event will explore how the European Union and NATO can strengthen their cooperation to address these dynamics. Drawing on NATO’s Southern Neighbourhood Action Planwhich seeks deeper engagement and practical cooperation with regional partners, and EU Common Security and Defence policyincluding partnerships in the region and the new EU Pact for the Mediterranean, the discussion will focus on how both organisations can jointly contribute to stability and shared security in the wider Mediterranean.

Speakers will explore opportunities for more active engagement on shared security priorities in the region, assess the challenges both institutions may encounter, and identify concrete areas for deeper cooperation.
