DThe EU countries are about to agree on a first list of third countries from which entry should be permitted again from July 1. A spokeswoman for the Croatian Presidency told the newspaper on Sunday that the written consent process would begin on Monday. A further referral to the EU ambassador is not planned. By Saturday evening, many countries had made a positive statement on a provisional list that the EU ambassadors had agreed on Friday. In addition to four small European countries, there were 14 larger countries and, with reservations, China.

Political correspondent for the European Union, NATO and the Benelux countries based in Brussels.

According to the FAZ, the 14 countries are: Algeria, Australia, Georgia, Japan, Canada, Morocco, Montenegro, New Zealand, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia and Uruguay. These countries meet all the conditions that the EU Commission has proposed. You have fewer or as many new corona infections as the EU as a whole; the trend is decreasing and the health system is sufficiently resilient; in return, they also allow all EU residents free entry. China is subject to reservations because it exempts some member states. In their final proposal, the Croatians want to take into account the opinion of the capitals, the majority of which reported back until Saturday.

The list should be updated every two weeks to take into account the dynamics of the pandemic. It represents a recommendation for the EU states and the four associated states in the Schengen area. Each state decides on its implementation. However, a uniform regulation is intended because the borders in the Schengen area are now largely open again. That was the prerequisite for entry from third countries.
