“Everything is so neat, and there are so many beautiful photo spots,” Yayuk said while touring the village with her husband.

Local Delights and Cultural Experiences

Visitors to Penglipuran can also taste delicious local snacks and refreshing drinks at the local homes. During the holiday, tourists like Maliq from Malang, East Java, enjoyed the village’s peaceful ambiance and sweet durian fruit. His experience left a lasting impression.

“This is my first time here, and the village feels so peaceful. The durian is incredibly sweet. I’ll definitely come back again,” Maliq said, enjoying the fruit at a local home.

To enhance the cultural experience, tourists can rent traditional Balinese attire for just Rp. 50,000 ($3). This includes a shirt, sarong (Kamen), and headgear (Udeng), providing a unique opportunity to capture memorable photos in authentic Balinese clothes.

New Attractions in Penglipuran

Beyond its pristine setting, Penglipuran has introduced exciting new attractions. The Bamboo Forest and the newly established Pelipulara Market, located in the heart of the forest, offer visitors a unique experience. The market promotes local small businesses and offers a traditional shopping experience using bamboo currency.

Wayan Sumiarsa, the village’s tourism manager, explains, “Pelipulara Market is a traditional concept aimed at helping local businesses, providing a new spot for visitors to enjoy.”

For those seeking an authentic cultural experience, Penglipuran offers traditional food, architecture, and ambiance. Dini, a tourist from Cibinong, West Java, described her stay as unforgettable. “The food and traditional architecture give us the chance to experience the true culture of Bali,” she said while sampling local treats.

Preserving the Environment

Penglipuran’s commitment to preserving its environment has earned it the prestigious Kalpataru award from the Indonesian government. This recognition is a testament to the village’s efforts in protecting local bamboo forests.

During the Chinese New Year holiday, the number of visitors to Penglipuran saw a notable increase, surpassing 10,000 by the third day. In contrast, in 2024, the village welcomed around 7,500 visitors during the same period.

Visiting Penglipuran is a reasonably priced experience, with tickets costing Rp. 50,000 for foreign adults, Rp. 30,000 for foreign children, and Rp. 25,000 for domestic adults and Rp. 15,000 for domestic children. This affordable entry fee ensures that tourists can enjoy all that Penglipuran has to offer.
