Dutch Player Dominates Massive Field at Circus Casino resort Namur
The Unibet Deepstack Open (UDSO) Namur event concluded this Sunday with a thrilling final table showdown. Erik Sturkenboom from the Netherlands emerged as the champion, seizing the title and a grand prize of €67,881. The tournament, held at the Circus Casino Resort Namur, attracted a staggering 1,257 entries, showcasing the enduring popularity of deepstack poker events.
Potential Double Victory Foiled for Previous UDSO Champions
The final table held added intrigue as two players, Maxime Ryvol and Wellington Lessa Guedes, had the opportunity to secure their second UDSO title. Ryvol had previously won in Divonne-les-Bains in January, while Lessa Guedes triumphed in Paris last November. However, Lessa Guedes’s run was cut short as he was the first player eliminated from the final table, finishing ninth with a respectable €8,860 prize. Ryvol managed to navigate deeper into the competition but ultimately finished fourth, earning €31,500.
Lakhdari’s Momentum Halted in Belgium
Another notable player, Omar Lakhdari, fresh off a victory at the WPT Prime Cyprus where he won $190,430, also made a strong showing. Though, his momentum stalled in Namur, as he finished in fifth place, taking home €25,000. This highlights the unpredictable nature of poker tournaments, where recent success doesn’t guarantee future wins.
The Final Showdown: sturkenboom vs. Chicot
Before the heads-up battle, a three-way ICM deal was struck, resulting in Liviu Bartha from Romania securing third place and €53,925. This left Mael Chicot from France and Erik Sturkenboom to compete for the title. After an intense heads-up match,Sturkenboom ultimately prevailed, claiming the UDSO belt and the top prize. Chicot, as the runner-up, earned a significant €53,694.
The UDSO belt took the direction of the Netherlands with the victory of Sturkenboom.
