The live "Hunchback of Notre-Dame" movie is in progress

The actor Josh Gad signed to produce a live-action version of The Hunchback of Notre-Dame.

Tony Award-winning playwright David Henry Hwang was chosen to record the film, while Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz, nominated for an Academy Award for Best Music, Original Music or Comedy for the 1996 animated version, will gather to work on the music for the new movie.

It is unclear whether Frozen's star will play a role in the film, but the animated animation of the 1996 classic Victor Hugo novel of the nineteenth century was directed by Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale and saw the voices of Tom Hulce as Quasimodo and Demi Moore as Esmeralda, alongside Kevin Kline, Jason Alexander and David Ogden Stiers.

A production date has yet to be announced, but the film will join other Disney action live remakes, including Aladdin, The Lion King, Dumbo and Lady and the Tramp.

Meanwhile, Idris Elba is producing, directing and interpreting a modern version of the story and will also create original songs for his soundtrack. Elba's adaptation will be published on Netflix.

"It's incredibly discouraging," he told Empire magazine earlier this year. "The film currently lives entirely in my brain, I'm very lucky to have a classic story to reinvent, so now it's about how I do it.

"I definitely do more than I've ever done in another project, with the hats I'm wearing, but hey, that's why I'm here, I'm an entertainer, right ?, I compare it to an athlete who is invited to do a triathlon: "OK, show me what you really have & # 39;"
