An influential YouTuber has revealed that she is transgender after she says she was blackmailed by someone who threatened to take her out.
Makeup artist Nikkie de Jager, also known as Nikkie Tutorials, told almost 13 million subscribers that she “always wanted to share” her story publicly, “but in my own circumstances.”
“It seems that they took it from me,” said the 25-year-old in a video blog, adding: “I have been blackmailed by people who wanted to filter my story to the press.”
“At the beginning it was scary to know that there are people out there who are so evil that they cannot respect someone’s true identity. He is vile and disgusting.”
Speaking about her transition in the 17-minute video, the Dutch creator said she felt that “she was born in the wrong body” because “everything was feminine,” and she had grown her hair at age six.
By the time he was eight, he said he only wore girls’ clothes, and in later years he took hormones and “growth plugs” to control his height.
At 19, he had made a complete transition, which he said took place “while on YouTube.”
De Jager has published his makeup tutorials on YouTube for approximately 11 years, and has collaborated with several celebrities, including Lady Gaga and model Ashley Graham.
It has also appeared on the covers of Glamor and Grazia magazines in the Netherlands.
His video revealed on Monday reached the top of the YouTube trend list hours after its publication, and since then it has accumulated more than 16 million views.
The YouTubers companions sent their encouragement to the star as a “proud and unexcused woman,” while Dutch education, culture and science minister Ingrid van Engelshoven said she was a “great role model”.

The 25-year-old said she finally told her story she felt “surreal” but also “liberating,” and assured her fans that nothing in her account would change.
“Since I am sharing this with you today, I feel that my relationship with all of you will be much more open than ever in the past,” he said, adding: “And I think ‘I am ready for that.”
He also expressed praise for his teachers and his mother, who supported his transition as they grew up, and for his fiance Dylan, who said he was a “strong and inspiring human being.”
