The producer of James Bond films has said he is not “interested” in the spy a woman is playing.
No Time To Die, which will be released on April 2, will be Daniel Craig’s last exit as 007.
It was speculated that the next actor who would play him would be a woman, but Barbara Broccoli dismissed this.
Speaking to Variety, she said: “It can be any color, but it is a man.
“I think we should create new characters for women, strong female characters. I’m not particularly interested in taking a male character and having a woman interpret it. I think women are much more interesting than that.”
Rumors were fed when it was revealed that actress Lashana Lynch plays a female agent 00 in the new movie after Craig’s Bond leaves active duty.
Craig needed to be convincing to play Bond for the fifth time after complaining about the physical cost of filming Specter of 2015.
He insisted that this year’s launch is the last one, but Broccoli said: “I am in total denial. I have accepted what Daniel said, but I am still in denial. It is too traumatic for me.”
Idris Elba and Richard Madden are among the names that fans think they could play the MI6 agent.
On Tuesday it was confirmed that the American singer Billie Eilish is recording The title of the song for the movie.
