Amy Winehouse birthday: a look back at the life of the star on the day that she would have turned 35

Amy Winehouse was a vocal powerhouse who soon became one of the most original, gifted and edgy vocalists in the history of the British music scene.

But a life marked by talent was also marred by tragedy, and the world lost one of its most important musical voices at the age of 27 on July 23, 2011.

On what would have been her 35th birthday, we look back on her life in photos, from her amazing performance on stage to her impetuous and ultimately destructive personal life.

Winehouse, unbelievable, had only two albums to her name: Frank and Back to Black.

The Camden singer stirred up the interest of critics when she dropped her debut, Frank, in 2003, which received a nomination for the Mercury Prize in 2004 against, among others, Basement Jaxx, Franz Ferdinand, Snow Patrol, The Streets and The Zutons in 2004.

But it was only in the release of her follow-up, Back to Black, in 2006 that Winehouse quickly became a worldwide sensation.

Famous for her beehive and voice to match the jazz greats, she was honored worldwide and won five Grammy Awards in 2008, including Record and Song of the Year for her hit single Rehab. The course exposed the public battle of Winehouse with alcohol addiction, which quickly turned the news upside down.

Winehouse struggled to cope with the spotlight that brought its new star status and critical success.

Her addiction and rehab stints, as well as the breakdown of toxic relationships, especially Blake Fielder-Civil, was too much for the fragile star to face the public. She received an order against a leading paparazzi agency in 2009 and forbade them to follow her. Other photographers were not allowed to photograph her and friends and family in the neighborhood of her house in Camden.

Winehouse & # 39; s death by alcohol poisoning was announced on July 23, 2011. Fans mourned with hundreds of people to express their respect outside her home. After her death, she broke her second Guinness World Record for most of a woman's songs to appear simultaneously on the British hit list, with eight. Her album Back to Black also became posthumous one of the UK's best-selling albums.

Lioness: Hidden Treasures, an album of previously unreleased material, was made available to the public in December 2011 and debuted at the top of the album chart.

On September 14, 2014, which would have been her 31st birthday, she was unveiled a picture at the Stables Market in her beloved Camden Town.
