A young student from Zuidlaren sustained serious injuries this Thursday morning following a traffic accident on Burgemeester JG Legroweg in Eelde. The incident occurred as the student was crossing the road near her high school.

According to initial reports, the student was struck by a car traveling at a significant speed. The impact caused significant damage to both the bicycle, with its front wheel wholly detaching, and the vehicle involved.

Immediate Response and Medical Attention

School staff were quick to respond, providing immediate first aid to the injured student while awaiting the arrival of emergency services. Paramedics stabilized the victim at the scene before transporting her to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

The 54-year-old driver from Groningen involved in the accident sustained minor injuries, reportedly from shattered glass. He received on-site treatment from an ambulance nurse and was subsequently taken into police custody for questioning.
