The Education Network Information Security Promotion Committee (ISEN), whose management office is JMC Co., Ltd., conducted a survey on November 12, 2021 (Friday), “The Occurrence of Personal Information Leakage Accidents in Schools and Educational Institutions in the 2nd Year of Reiwa”. The report (2nd edition) has been published.

This survey is conducted annually by ISEN, and is conducted on the homepages of schools and local governments regarding the loss and leakage of information including personal information of children, students, parents, etc. that occurred in schools, public educational institutions, and related organizations. The survey is conducted based on news announcement materials and information published on news sites of national and local newspapers, and is tabulated annually.

This report includes a survey of the aggregated results of information security accidents that occurred in the 2nd year of Reiwa (April 1, 2nd year of Reiwa to 31st March, 3rd year of Reiwa), changes in the number of accidents, and the characteristics of the accidents. The results are summarized. The survey report (2nd edition) reflects the survey results as of November 8, 3rd year of Reiwa.

In this survey, many accidents occurred at the beginning of the year, at the time of grade processing, and at the end of the semester, and accidents in which documents and e-mail were leaked routes and media accounted for 75% of the total. Compared to the investigation report (1st edition) issued on June 25, the number of accidents increased by 3 due to unauthorized access and mispublication. It turns out that unauthorized access is mainly occurring at universities.
