A impressive 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Java on Friday, the meteorological agency said, prompting some Jakarta residents to flee the properties in stress.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said the earthquake struck 52 kilometers off the coastline of Banten province at a depth of 10 kilometers, but did not trigger a tsunami warning. The magnitude was to begin with reported to 6.7 but was downgraded to 6.6.
There were being no fast stories of casualties and the BMKG warned people to keep indoors, after five aftershocks were recorded, the strongest achieving a magnitude of 5.7.
