Donate Blood Holzminden | BBS Blood Donation Drive

by Archynetys Health Desk

Holzminden. Donate blood and save lives: The motto of the DRK blood donation service makes it clear – every donation saves lives, every donation can be the decisive one. And how easy it can be to save lives can be seen at the Georg von Langen School, BBS Holzminden. Anyone interested can simply show up for the 19th pre-Christmas blood donation – the school is open to anyone who wants to donate the urgently needed blood.

In particular, the other secondary schools as well as citizens from the neighborhood of BBS Holzminden are invited to come to the Georg von Langen School. The aim is to encourage people to donate for the first time and to introduce them to blood donation. In addition to the blood donation service, the German Stem Cell Donor Registry is also represented again. Stem cell donors are vital to the survival of blood cancer patients.

How does BBS support blood donation?

For the food trade, gastronomy and health departments at BBS Holzminden, the blood donation day will be a busy practical day. It starts early in the morning in the bakery. Specialist practice teacher and master baker Ralf Bähre and his students provide fresh rolls from the school’s own teaching bakery: bake rolls for all blood donors – because physical well-being is a must after donating blood. Together with their teachers Claudia Renziehausen-Geese, Kirsten Schünemann, Martin Decker, Pasqual Koch and Nils Kaufeld, the students from the catering department provide all participants with plenty of food and drinks in the teaching restaurant.

The fundraising campaign runs on Thursday, December 18th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Von-Langen-Allee 5. The route to blood donation is signposted from the main entrance to the main building. All blood donors are looked after by full-time and volunteer employees of the German Red Cross and by trainees as medical and dental assistants under the guidance of Frank Hischer.

Why should young people become blood donors?

“A blood donation is needed every seven seconds,” says the Red Cross. Blood is needed during operations, after accidents or in serious illnesses. Every blood donation saves lives. Once again, the goal is to have as many donations and typings carried out at the BBS in order to be able to help other people. It is particularly important to turn young people into blood donors. Because then there is a high probability that they will remain blood donors.

First-time donors please bring their ID card with them. Participants should use the appointment booking system to avoid long lines and waiting times: https://www.blutspende-leben.de/blutspendetermine.
