Dominik Mysterio retained the AAA Mega Championship at AAA Rey de Reyes 2026 but left the event with a significant head injury.
Mysterio defended the AAA Mega Championship against El Hijo Del Vikingo in a No Disqualification singles match. The stakes were high on both sides. If Mysterio lost, he would be permanently banned from AAA. If he won, Vikingo would be barred from challenging for the title again.
The match turned chaotic quickly under No Disqualification rules. Both men used weapons including kendo sticks, chairs, and a garbage can as the fight spread around the arena. Dorian Roldán attempted to assist Vikingo, while Omos later appeared and chokeslammed Mysterio in the ring. Mini Vikingo then evened the odds by taking Omos out of the match. With the outside interference neutralized, Mysterio took control. He hit Vikingo with a chair, connected with the 619, and followed with a frog splash to retain the AAA Mega Championship.
Following the match, Mysterio posted photos on Instagram showing a large cut on his head that was bleeding heavily.
The timing of the injury raises questions about his WrestleMania 42 plans. Mysterio had been pushing a match against Penta for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 42, scheduled for April 18 and 19 in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, it appears WWE is building to a match with Finn Balor for him following the Judgment Day turning on Balor last week on Raw. No official update on his condition has been provided.
