In a notable move to bolster technical-professional education, the dominican Republic is rolling out a complete plan to equip its polytechnic schools with state-of-the-art workshops.This initiative aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical submission,providing students with the skills necessary to thrive in today’s competitive job market.

Nationwide Rollout: Impacting Thousands of Students

The Ministry of Education (MINERD) is spearheading the installation of thes workshops, wich will focus on key areas such as computer application development and administration, office technology, and computer network and system support.Initially, nearly a thousand students across several selected centers are set to benefit. These centers include:

• Technical Liceo Pedro Henríquez Ureña
• Polytechnic Our Mrs. del Rosario de Fatima
• Pedro Pedro Short Polytechnic
• jinova Polytechnic
• and others

This strategic investment directly addresses the growing demand for skilled technicians and professionals in the Dominican Republic. According to recent data from the Ministry of labor, the technology sector alone has seen a 15% increase in job openings over the past year, highlighting the urgent need for qualified graduates.

A Bridge Between Theory and Practice

Cristhiam Quelix, head of MINERD’s Department of Professional Technical Education, emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that all polytechnics are equipped with the resources necessary for students to acquire modern labor skills. These workshops are the bridge between theoretical and practice knowledge, Quelix stated.

Here, students will be able to experience, innovate and develop solutions to real problems, enhancing their creativity, analysis capacity and technical skill.

Ambitious National Equipment Plan

The current workshop installations are part of a larger, ambitious national equipment plan. By 2028, the government aims to install 1,220 workshops across the country, impacting over 118,000 students in technical-professional education. This represents a substantial investment in the future workforce of the Dominican Republic.
