Nepal and Japan Strengthen Ties Through JICA Partnership

Minister for Foreign Affairs Arzu Rana Deuba met with Akihiko Tanaka,president of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA),in Tokyo on Friday to discuss ongoing collaborations and future opportunities between nepal and Japan.
The meeting, held at JICA’s headquarters, centered on Nepal-Japan bilateral relations and areas of mutual interest, according to the foreign minister’s secretariat. Discussions highlighted the importance of the partnership in fostering economic and social progress in Nepal.
During the discussions, Foreign Minister deuba conveyed Nepal’s recognition for the Japanese government’s sustained support through JICA, notably its contributions to Nepal’s economic and social advancement.
She specifically acknowledged JICA’s assistance under its basic cooperation policy with Nepal, which focuses on economic growth, poverty alleviation, disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, and the strengthening of good governance and democracy.
Infrastructure Development and Future Collaboration

Deuba also highlighted Japan’s ongoing support for key infrastructure projects,including the construction of the Nagdhunga tunnel and the reconstruction and maintenance of the Sindhuli-Bardibas road.
The discussions also covered broader themes such as Nepal-Japan relations, JICA’s continued assistance to Nepal, strategies for mitigating the impact of climate change, disaster management protocols, the promotion of good governance, and issues affecting senior citizens.
