WOOSTER, Ohio (January 25) – The Denison women’s track and field team showcased remarkable talent at the Fighting Scots Invitational, hosted by the College of Wooster. The team secured a second-place finish with 94 points, driven by individual triumphs across various events. Anaya Jolivette stood out, winning multiple races and serving as a key contributor to the team’s success.
Sprints: Lightning on the Track
Denison’s sprinters were a force to be reckoned with at the competition. In the 200-meter dash, Anaya Jolivette claimed first place with a time of 26.88 seconds, setting an example of speed and precision. She then joined forces with teammates Ava Sinex, Lillian Wallace-Larkin, and Mira Renaldi to secure second in the 4×200-meter relay with a time of 1:47.09, just narrowly missing first by three-thousandths of a second to Oberlin.
Sydney Brown excelled in the 60-meter hurdles, securing second place with a time of 9.62. Renaldi also contributed to the team’s sprint success with a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash, completing the race in 1:07.30.
The Denison 4×400-meter relay team of Renaldi, Brown, Abby McChesney, and Alexis Verdell cemented their reputation as a formidable unit with a strong second-place finish, clocking in at 4:24.30.
Field Events: Strength and Skill
In the field, Sydney Flores exhibited strength and skill, winning the shot put with a throw of 11.69m (38-04.25). Mariel Drost also made a significant impact with her fifth-place performance in the weight throw, achieving a distance of 13.56m (44-06.00).
In the pole vault, Cate Gagnier cleared 3.05m (10-00.00) to finish second, demonstrating agility and technique. Evangelina Sparks followed closely behind with a fourth-place jump at 2.60m (8-06.25).
Jolivette dominated on the jumps, earning second place in the long jump with a leap of 4.99m (16-04.50), adding to her impressive list of achievements.
Distance: Stamina and Endurance
Verdell showcased her endurance in the mile, placing fourth with a time of 5:32.08. Her performance highlighted the team’s versatility and strength across different disciplines.
As the meets advance, Denison will build on their strong showing, with the next competition set for January 30, when they will host a dual meet against their rivals at The College of Wooster.
