The event featured prominent cabinet ministers such as Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh.
Preparation and Rituals
Before the aarti took place, Gupta and her ministers paid their respects at Vasudev Ghat, a historic ghat on the Yamuna River’s western bank.
Following the ceremony, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta emphasized the government’s commitment to cleaning the river. She stated, “Today, during the aarti of Maa Yamuna, we remembered our resolution to clean the river. We will use the needed resources, and it will be our priority.”
About Vasudev Ghat
Vasudev Ghat is situated between Yamuna Ghat and Nigam Bodh Ghat in Kashmere Gate, offering a serene and scenic spot along the Yamuna.
The restored riverbank features lush vegetation, carved pavilions, and a variety of flowering plants, enhancing the ghat’s aesthetic appeal.
Three entrances lead to the 145-meter-long ghat, which descends via 25 steps into the Yamuna River. Additionally, a statue of Maa Yamuna and a chhatri with a unique 300kg metal bell grace the premises, symbolizing the local deity and spiritual heritage.
Significance of the Yamuna Aarti
This evening aarti marked a significant milestone following the BJP’s victory in the Delhi assembly elections, where river cleanup was a key campaigning pledge.
The public gathering and the lighting of oil lamps created a visually captivating scene as devotees offered prayers along with the ministers and other devotees.
Role of BJP and Government Initiatives
VHP Delhi prant mantri Surender Gupta expressed gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor, highlighting the progress and potential transformation of Delhi into Indraprastha under the BJP’s governance.
The aarti symbolized the BJP’s commitment to the cleaning of the Yamuna River, a strategic initiative to improve the water quality after 27 years of AAP’s governance.
The cleanup strategy, comprising four phases, commenced on Sunday, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reaffirmation of his support during the BJP’s victory celebrations.
Current Actions and Future Plans
Officials deployed various machinery including weed harvesters, dredgers, and trash skimmers to begin the cleanup process.
The government aims to cleanse the entire 57-kilometer stretch of the Yamuna within Delhi, which flows through Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
