death toll rises to 11, Biden wants an investigation

Collapse of a building in the USA

US President Joe Biden says he is in favor of an investigation into a building collapse near Miami, leaving 11 dead and 150 people missing, so that such facts will not happen again.

President Biden, “believes there should be an investigation,” said Jen Psaki, White House spokesman. She said the US administration wants to “play a constructive role with federal resources to get to the bottom of things and prevent this from happening again in the future.”

She did not elaborate on details of how the investigation should be conducted.

The balance sheet grows heavier

Five days after a building collapsed near Miami, the death toll has grown from 9 to 11, the mayor of Miami-Dade County said on Monday, with a total of 150 people still missing.

“In recent hours, rescuers have found another victim. The confirmed death toll is 11,” said Daniella Levine Cava, mayor of Miami-Dade County, at a press conference early Monday evening.

150 people are still missing, including dozens of Latin Americans from Argentina, Colombia, Paraguay, Chile and Uruguay.

More than 50 federal personnel are on hand to help with the ongoing investigation and search and rescue efforts, including experts in civil engineering and geotechnology.
