In Aydın’s Germencik district, 76-year-old Meryem Akgün was found dead in her home by her daughter 4 days ago. His 56-year-old son, İbrahim Akgün, who was detained as a suspect and confessed in his statement that he killed his mother by hitting her head with a piece of wood during an argument over a “land dispute”, was arrested.
The incident took place on March 8 in Çamköy District of Germencik district. Meryem Akgün was found motionless on the floor of her home by her daughter who came to visit her. Upon notice, gendarmerie and medical teams were dispatched to the address. In the first examination of the medical staff, it was determined that Meryem Akgün had died. Gendarmerie teams launched a large-scale investigation upon suspicion that the woman, who was found to have been hit in the head, was the victim of murder.
In the investigation carried out by Germencik Gendarmerie Command and JASAT teams, 348 hours of camera recordings were examined and the statements of many witnesses were taken. During the investigation, it was determined that the woman’s son, İbrahim Akgün, committed the murder. İbrahim Akgün was taken into custody on the evening of the same day. In his statement, Akgün said that he and his mother were in court due to a land dispute and that they had not met for a long time. Akgün, who stated in his statement that he was looking for treasure around Yeniköy with a friend on the day of the incident, confessed his crime by saying, “After a while, I left my friend and went to my mother’s house. While we were talking, an argument broke out between us. I got angry, hit his head with the wood in the house and died.”
İbrahim Akgün was arrested by the court at Germencik Courthouse, where he was referred today, after 3 days of detention at the gendarmerie.
