Cristiano Ronaldo has emerged victorious in a legal dispute against his former club Juventus after a Turin court finally rejected the Bianconeri’s appeal. The Italian giant is obliged to pay the Portuguese megastar the sum of 9.7 million euros, reports the authoritative publication “Gadzeta dello Sport”.
It all started in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic shook the football industry. Juventus and Ronaldo reached an agreement to defer part of his remuneration – a total of 19.6 million euros. Subsequently, the payment of bonuses until the end of July 2021 was also agreed, but these funds never entered the attacker’s account. He then decided to seek his rights through the courts.
The saga unfolded amid serious turmoil in the Old Lady’s reign. In late November 2022, almost the entire board of directors, including President Andrea Agnelli and Vice President Pavel Nedved, resigned. Just days later, the prosecutor’s office in Turin launched an investigation against the management for financial abuse, manipulation of accounting reports and artificially inflating the value of transfers. The charges included spreading false information about the club’s finances, filing false declarations and obstructing audits – actions that have tarnished the reputation of one of Italy’s most successful clubs.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who is currently shining with Al Nasser’s team, left a bright mark at Juventus between 2018 and 2021. During this period, he played 134 games, scored an impressive 101 goals and assisted a further 28 goals. Under his leadership, the Bianconeri won two Serie A titles, two Italian Super Cups and one Italian Cup.
Now, after a long legal saga, justice has ruled in favor of the Portuguese goalscorer. The decision of the court in Turin is final and Juventus will have to pay the amount owed to Ronaldo. Thus, the Portuguese not only cemented his status as one of the most successful footballers in history, but also showed that he knows how to stand up for his rights off the field as well.
