Research is working at full speed, but the Federal Research Minister does not expect a vaccine for large sections of the population before the end of 2020 or the beginning of 2021. Germany is now to participate in an important WHO study.

BAnja Karliczek, Minister of Research, sees a vaccine in the fight against the coronavirus at the end of the year at the earliest. “We have to assume that a vaccine that can be used to protect broad sections of the population will not be available until the end of the year or the beginning of next year,” the CDU politician told the editorial network in Germany. The following applies to vaccine research: “We want to run as quickly as possible – but we must not fall down. We have to be sure that the vaccination works and doesn’t harm the patient. ”

Karliczek said: “We are exhausting the research opportunities to the last. We are ready to provide additional funds if there are promising projects. Corona research will not fail because of the money. ”

According to Karliczek, Germany will participate in a study by the World Health Organization WHO on coronavirus. “In the current corona pandemic, close international cooperation is more important than ever, especially in research,” said the CDU politician to the editorial network. “That is why we will also participate in a cross-border clinical study initiated by the WHO.” The aim of this is to test existing drugs for their effectiveness against COVID-19.
