Cordless vacuum cleaner at Warentest: lots of power even without a cable
Vacuum cleaners without cables are convenient and flexible. So far, the performance of the cordless vacuum cleaner has disappointed. For the first time, the product testers awarded the grade “good”.
Cordless vacuum cleaners have had a difficult time at the Stiftung Warentest. In previous years, the testers were generally deeply disappointed with the low suction power of the devices. In the new test it looks different, it shows the same picture as the own tests of the stern: Suction power and battery power have increased significantly. A cordless vacuum cleaner can now be used as a replacement for a cable device, at least when large areas are not vacuumed at once.
Three good devices
Ten devices were tested, three rated “good”, a novelty. So-called “stick suction cups” were tested, in which the entire device is held in the hand. So you don’t have a flexible hose to which the nozzle is attached. The stick suction cups again fall into two different groups. For some, the waist-high device can be significantly shortened by removing a tube; for others, this is not possible, the device always stays the same length. If, in addition to cleaning floors with a cordless vacuum, you also want to vacuum upholstery and sofas or clean your cupboards or the car, you have to buy a flexible device. Because only with the shortened suction gun is it easy to get into inaccessible corners.
These three devices scored “good”: The Dyson V11 Absolute sucks best overall. He shone especially on carpets in the test. It was criticized that the power button had to be pressed continuously while vacuuming. In the long run, the posture tires the index finger very much. The device is available from 515 euros, but depending on the equipment package, it can be more expensive. The second place vacuum cleaner comes from Vorwerk. Of the Kobold VB100 costs even 825 euros, it is the only device that works with a bag. The goblin scores with coarse dirt and gets everything out of cracks. Third came Bosch BBH7SIL athlete for 500 euros. It takes the longest charging time of the test devices. The process takes almost six hours. In addition, it cannot be used as a small vacuum cleaner.
Questions before buying
Before buying, you should make sure that you need a device with a removable battery, because the battery cannot always be changed. A second battery is particularly interesting if you tend to suck at full power. Then it usually ends after about 15 minutes. Those who are satisfied with less suction power can suck for about 30 to 40 minutes with one battery charge. This is usually sufficient for private households. Before buying, you should also take a close look at the brush head. With some devices, the heads are so massive that they do not fit under a cabinet or a sofa.
In general, the cordless vacuum cleaners are very loud when they run at full power. To save weight, the insulation is neglected. Nevertheless, the devices are not easy because of the battery. They weigh between 2.4 and four kilograms. If the brush is resting on the floor, this is not a problem, but as soon as the ceiling, walls or curtains are vacuumed and the device is not supported, the weight is felt in the wrist.
All devices rated as good cost more than 500 euros. If that is too expensive, you should get that Eufy HomeVac S11 Go look at. It was not tested by product tests, but was able to convince us in the practical test. Overall, the Eufy does not match the test winner from Dyson in some details. But he convinced him in the practical test with his strong suction power at a low price: at times the device with a lot of accessories does not cost 200 euros. There is a removable battery for the Eufy, and the suction cup can also be shortened.
