Football striker Sergio Agüero will become a player of Barcelona from 1 July, with which he signed a two-year contract.
The Argentine shooter will leave for the Catalan big club for free after his current contract in Manchester City expires at the end of June. The new agreement also includes an exit clause worth € 100 million. The transfer was confirmed by both teams on their official website.
“Everyone in Manchester City would like to thank Sergio for his incredible contribution in our last successful decade and wish him good luck for the rest of his career,” said City officials.
The 32-year-old Agüero spent ten seasons in the English team, during which he won 15 trophies, including five Premier League championship titles. He scored 260 goals in 390 matches in the “Citizens” jersey and became the best scorer in the club’s history.
With 184 goals, he is also the fourth best scorer in the Premier League and the most successful foreign player in the league. With his 12th hat-trick in the January match against Aston Ville, he surpassed Alan Shearer’s maximum. In the spring, the club agreed to build a statue for its striker in the stadium, as they would in the case of David Silva or Vincent Kompany.
The last match in the Manchester City jersey of Agüero was played over the weekend in the final of the Champions League against Chelsea, which, however, the Pepa Guardioly team lost 0: 1. With the team, at least in his last season, he won the English League and the League Cup. Barcelona, on the other hand, failed in the fight for the title, finishing third in the league and winning only the Spanish Cup.
