As part of “The Ligeti Experiment” – The ARD Week of Music”

Ligeti’s love of Romanian folk music

The Hungarian composer György Ligeti would have been 100 years old on May 28, 2023. For this reason, his work is the focus of this year’s “ARD Week of Music – The Ligeti Experiment” from March 20th to 26th. The program features Ligeti’s “Poème Symphonique” for 100 metronomes, which Ligeti composed at the age of 39.

After this “rhythm cloud” follows the “Concerto Romanesc”. It invites you to trace Ligeti’s love of Romanian folk music. Excerpts from Bartók’s powerful “Concerto for Orchestra” complete the program.

The NDR Youth Symphony Orchestra

The NDR Youth Symphony Orchestra is made up of musicians aged 17 to 25. Many of them study at the North German music academies. The orchestra meets twice a year for ten-day work phases, each of which ends with a concert in the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg.
