[스포티비뉴스=김건일 기자] Coach Hwang Seon-hong, who leads the under-23 (U-23) national team and participates in the Asian Cup qualifiers, predicted offensive football.
The Korean national team, participating in the 2022 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers, gathered at the NFC (National Football Team Training Center) in Paju on the 11th and started quenching for the tournament.
Manager Hwang, who took the helm of the under-23 national team prior to the tournament, said at a press conference that day, “The K-League is very competitive for rankings, and I am grateful to the players and coaches who responded to the call.” Because of that, I will prepare well for the rest of the time and get good results.”
Then, when asked which part to focus on, he said, “I can’t say for sure, but I think the weight will be high in attack.”
Hwang emphasized fast football at the inauguration press conference on the 16th of last month.
The 23 final list announced on the 4th includes players who are consistently active in the K-League such as Koo Bon-cheol (Incheon) and Kim Chan (Chungnam Asan). (Daegu), Ko Jae-hyeon (Seoul E), and Park Jeong-in (Busan) were newly boarded.
Manager Hwang said, “It is time to expand the talent pool with potential players and build confidence in the players as it is the first international competition. It’s about whether those players will grow well and become a foundation for Korean football, and I will instill competitiveness in Korean football by cultivating and growing it well.”
In the Asian Cup qualifier to be held in Singapore, Korea, in Group H, will compete against the Philippines (25th), East Timor (28th) and Singapore (31st).
In the Asian Cup Qualifier, which is divided into East and West Asia regions and consists of 11 groups, only the top 4 teams from the first and second places in each group advance to the finals. Uzbekistan automatically advances to the final stage as the host country.
Director Hwang promised, “I will do my best to get results.”
Hwang, who played as Korea’s leading striker, scoring 50 goals in 103 matches during his active career, also left a message of support for the national team going to Iran that day.
“As it is an away game, a difficult match is expected, but I hope that I will do my best to bring joy to the people as I did my best to overcome the difficult atmosphere with a good atmosphere in the last game without losing my dignity.”
