Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (VP) assumes that there could be Hintermnner regarding the bloody deed in Gerasdorf. The investigation, in particular on the motive, “is currently in full swing,” says Nehammer.
On Saturday evening Mamichan U. aka Martin B. was shot on a company site on the B7 in Gerasdorf near the city limits of Vienna (the ON reported). For months B. had vigorously criticized and insulted the Chechen regional president Ramzan Kadyrov on his video blog. The security authorities knew that he was putting himself in danger. Although the 43-year-old guardian explicitly refused, his apartment in Vienna-Donaustadt was observed. Interior Minister Nehammer wants to know whether the murder of the 43-year-old was ordered: “It needs full clarification, because too many foreign conflicts are brought to Austria.”
The Chechen, who was renamed Martin B., was recognized as a convention refugee after fleeing to Austria in 2007. However, after three criminal records – including trafficking and pretending to commit an act that was punishable by punishment – he was facing the asylum status. A corresponding procedure was in progress. B., who had been serving a prison sentence until the beginning of September 2019, had appealed against the first instance decision, which would have meant his deportation.
In front of the Russian embassy in Vienna, several dozen Chechen exiles called for consequences yesterday. Kadyrov is supported by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Russian embassy in Vienna, meanwhile, is waiting for confirmation from the Dutch police whether the suspects arrested are Russian citizens. The embassy sent a request to the Austrian authorities. If the two men are refugees, they are subject to the responsibility of Austria and not Russia.
Bildt wants “European answer”
The bloody deed of Gerasdorf also attracts international attention. “We are seeing a series of murder attacks on Chechen exiles across Europe, carried out by Russian agents,” said ex-government chief Carl Bildt yesterday. “The last one was in Vienna only a few days ago. This requires a European answer.”
