BYD (build Your Dreams) is rapidly establishing itself in the indonesian automotive market with a diverse lineup. Currently, five models cater to various segments, including sedans, SUVs, hatchbacks, and MPVs. The BYD Seal represents the sedan category, while the Atto 3 and Sealion 7 compete in the SUV arena. For those seeking a hatchback, the Dolphin is available, and the M6 caters to the MPV market. However, it’s the Dolphin Dynamic that’s capturing attention as the most accessible entry point into the BYD electric vehicle family in Indonesia.

Dolphin Dynamic: Affordable Electric Mobility

Priced at approximately Rp 369 million OTR (On The Road) in Jakarta, the BYD Dolphin Dynamic aims to make electric vehicle ownership more attainable. But what features does BYD pack into this budget-friendly EV?

Dimensions and Powertrain

The Dolphin Dynamic boasts a compact footprint, measuring 4,290 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width, and 1,570 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. Powering the vehicle is a front-wheel-drive permanent magnet synchronous motor, delivering a maximum output of 70 kW (approximately 94 horsepower) and 180 Nm of torque. This configuration allows for brisk acceleration in urban environments.

Performance and Battery

While not a performance-oriented vehicle, the Dolphin Dynamic achieves a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 12.3 seconds, suitable for city driving. The vehicle offers a range of 410 km on a single charge, according to BYD’s testing. This is less than the Premium Extended Range version. The battery capacity is 44.9 kWh.

Inside the cabin, the Dolphin Dynamic features a rotating 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, allowing for both portrait and landscape orientations.The system supports Bluetooth connectivity and audio streaming. Sound is delivered through a six-speaker audio system. A 5-inch digital instrument cluster provides essential driving data to the driver.

Safety and Convenience Features

Despite its affordability, the Dolphin Dynamic doesn’t compromise on safety. It includes front, side, and window airbags, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Isofix child seat anchors, and an Intelligent Power brake System. Standard safety features such as ABS (Anti-lock Braking System),EPB (Electronic Parking Brake),ESC (Electronic Stability Control),Traction Control,and EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) are also present.Furthermore, the vehicle is equipped with a 360-degree view monitor, front and rear parking sensors, and autohold functionality.

BYD also incorporates a suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) into the Dolphin Dynamic, including adaptive cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking System, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Support, Predictive Collision Warning, Rear Collision Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Brakes, Lane Departure Prevention, Emergency Lane Keeping Assist, and Lane Change Collision Warning.

Charging Capabilities

The Dolphin Dynamic supports both AC Type 2 charging and CCS 2 60 kW DC fast charging. It also features a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function, allowing the car to supply power to external devices.
