The World Championship of the Olympic class 470, which was to be held from 2 to 10 October in the regatta fields of the S’Arenal Yacht Club in Palma de Mallorca, has been definitively canceled by the International Association of the class.
The World Cup, which was originally due to be held from March 13 to 21 and was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has been canceled due to the current global situation.
At the moment it remains on the table as the European Open Championship and junior European champions will also be proclaimed if there are five or more entries in each of the respective fleets.
The situation will be under continuous evaluation and within a month there will be more decisions made and to be announced. At the end of August, the security protocol that will be in force if this test is carried out will be published, so that the various measures that will be applied in Palma de Mallorca are known in advance.
On the other hand, the World Cup and Junior European Championship of 470 that were to be held in Ggynia (Poland) from 22 to 29 this month have also been definitively canceled.
After these cancellations, the dates of the major events of the 470 class for 2021 have been published: the World Championship will be held in Vilamoura (Portugal) from March 5 to 13; the European Championship will take place in Hyères (France) from April 30 to May 8; The Junior World Championship will be held in San Remo (Italy) from July 11 to 18 and the Junior European Championship in Formia (Italy) from July 24 to 31.
