Ante Bajic gave the hosts the lead at the start of the second half (49′), which Shon Weissman equalized with his fifth goal of the season (71′). But Mutandwa countered with his seventh goal of the season and had the hosts celebrating deep into stoppage time. The first duel of the season went to Rieder 2-0. With their fifth win of the season, the newcomers worked their way up to seventh place, while Blue-White remains second to last. The Innviertel team will travel to Hartberg after the international break (November 22nd), while Linz coach Mitja Mörec’s team has a home game against Austria Vienna.
In the derby, the Rieders had to give up central defender Nikki Havenaar, who was banned from red, and Senft put his trust in home-grown Fabian Rossdorfer the day before his 20th birthday. The still-teenager initially experienced a game without any major highlights; both teams initially acted too imprecisely and not enough forcefully. Weissman missed two good chances for the guests and shot over the goal in each case (11th, 34th), a long-range shot from his fellow striker Ronivaldo just missed Andreas Leitner’s goal (28th).
Interruptions lasting minutes
Nicolas Bajlicz was too hesitant for the hosts and his shot was blocked by Manuel Maranda (42′). The biggest “excitement” in the first half were two minute-long interruptions due to heavy clouds of smoke caused by the lighting of pyrotechnics, which led to four minutes of added time. In this, Simon Seidl missed the chance to take the lead in Linz (45th + 4).
After the break, Ried got off to a perfect start. Mutandwa kept track of the counterattack against two opponents and shot sharply in front of the Linz goal, where Bajic reacted quickly and scored (49th). Just five minutes later, Bajic missed the brace when he shot wide alone in front of Linz keeper Viktor Baier. Afterwards there was the next longer break due to Bengalo.
Turbulent second half
As the game continued, things became painful for Ronivaldo. The striker collided with Yusuf Maart in the Ried penalty area, who was clearly playing the ball (64′). The 36-year-old had to be treated for longer and ultimately continued playing despite a bleeding wound on his lower leg. Shortly afterwards he was able to celebrate the equalizer by Weissman, who scored his fifth goal of the season after a fine Goiginger pass. However, the goal was only recognized after a VAR check; Philipp Pomer had canceled the offside.
Afterwards, the Linzers were initially closer to the winning goal in a hectic final phase. But the Rieders found match points: First, substitute Mark Grosse missed (88th), before Mutandwa struck with his head after a long Pomer ball and a Baier mistake
