His salary increased by 24% compared to the previous year, putting Orsel ahead of Anna Botin, who received €14.8 million. The increase was due to the good financial performance of UniCredit and other southern European banks, supported by higher interest rates and successful mergers and acquisitions.
Financial experts note that banks in Spain and Italy have demonstrated steady growth despite political and regulatory difficulties in the sector.
By comparison, in the US, top managers received significantly higher remunerations: David Solomon from Goldman Sachs earned millions, and Jamie Dimon from JPMorgan Chase – millions.
For 2026, Orsel’s maximum salary remains at €16.4m, with the majority of his bonuses to be paid out in shares deferred over eight years.
