Browns Stick with Winston Despite Playoff Hopes Dashed
The Cleveland Browns’ playoff dreams are officially over after their loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Despite this setback, head coach Kevin Stefanski has confirmed that quarterback Jameis Winston will remain the starter for Week 15 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Winston Gets the Nod
Stefanski reiterated his commitment to Winston during his Monday press conference, emphasizing the team’s focus on improving its overall performance.
“For me, and for us, we’re just going to continue to do everything we can to play better,” Stefanski said. “Obviously, I think we can play better on offense. Certainly, as a team, we can play better. But, really, the focus is making sure we put our guys in position to find a way to win.”
While promising second-year quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson is waiting in the wings, Stefanski indicated that he’s not ready to make a change just yet. Stephen emphasized his current focus on facing the Chiefs this week.
“Yeah, my line of thinking, really, is about Kansas City and this week. That’s where I’ll really focus,” stated Stefanski.
Injury Report
Stefanski also provided updates on several injured players:
- Linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah will miss Week 15 due to a neck injury.
- Cornerback Greg Newsome is dealing with a hamstring injury, although the severity and duration of his absence are unknown.
- Receiver Cedrick Tillman remains in the concussion protocol.
- Defensive tackle Mike Hall is eligible to return from injured reserve this week and could start practicing.
Looking Forward
Despite the disappointment of missing the playoffs, the Browns have a chance to finish the season strong. With Winston at the helm and a renewed focus on improvement, the team aims to compete against tough opponents like the Chiefs.
