For the third time in two days, a classification match needed extra time to find a winner. This time, it was the Boston Celtics, saved by Jayson Tatum at the very end of regulation time, who ended up winning against Orlando (122-119 ap), deprived at the last minute of his French back Evan Fournier (ill but not coronavirus as specified in the match sheet).
The Magic thus sees move away from the seventh place of the Eastern conference currently occupied by Brooklyn. To get it, the Floridians will have to win their last two games and hope that the Nets do not win at all, knowing that the two teams face each other on Tuesday.
In Fournier’s absence, Nikola Vucevic (26 points, 11 rebounds) and Markelle Fultz (16 points, 10 assists, 6 rebounds and a nice block) were Orlando’s key players. Boston side, if Tatum played the saviors at the last minute, he also compiled 29 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Gordon Hayward scored 31 points (plus 9 rebounds and 5 assists). This success secures third place in the Eastern Conference for the Celtics behind Milwaukee and Toronto.
