Two Stages, One Region: A tale of Two theaters

The Harz region is gearing up for a vibrant summer season with the reopening of its two unique open-air theaters: the grand Harzer bergtheater in Thale and the more intimate Waldbühne Altenbrak. Despite being separated by approximately ten kilometers,both venues promise a diverse range of performances,catering to a wide array of tastes.

Harzer Bergtheater: A Grand return After Extensive Renovations

After a five-year hiatus for extensive expansion and modernization, the Harzer Bergtheater, boasting an impressive 1,903 seats, is set to reopen on May 31st. The grand reopening will be marked by the premiere of Walpurga – the Musical, an exclusive production running until the end of August. The theater has been equipped with state-of-the-art lighting and 3D sound technology, enhancing the audience experience.

Beyond the premiere, the Harzer bergtheater’s program includes family-amiable productions such as Pippi Longstocking and Beauty and the Beast, alongside the comedic fairytale The Hexe Baba Jaga. The venue will also host a variety of musical performances, featuring renowned artists like Lisa Eckhart, Karat, Schiller, Michael Schulte, Gregor Meyle, Queen Classical, Chris de Burgh, Nicole & Band, Munich Freiheit, Alex Christensen, the Kastelruther Spatzen, Suzi Quatro, and Ventura Fox & Friends presenting Disney Classics. This diverse lineup aims to attract a broad audience, solidifying the theater’s position as a cultural hub in the Harz region.

Waldbühne Altenbrak: An Intimate Escape into Nature and Culture

For those seeking a more relaxed and intimate setting,the Waldbühne altenbrak,with its capacity of up to 900 seats,offers a charming alternative. This natural stage will present performances such as Laroranja – the secret of the sky disk,alongside family favorites like Till Eulenspiegel and The Jungle Book. A highlight of the season will be the 73rd Harz Yodel Competition, featuring the popular Wildecker Herzbuben.
