It’s slowly getting colder again and my desire for warming soups and stews increases again. This bean stew recipe with green beans, potatoes, carrots and Mettenden is an absolute feel-good meal for me – warming and nicely spicy. Not only is my stew easy to make, it’s also a popular family recipe for cold days. A real classic that tastes like it did with grandma.
My favorite bean stew recipe
Soups and stews, like my popular potato soup, are simply perfect family dishes. At home, I always put the large pot in the middle of the table and serve fresh bread and some delicious toppings with the stew. And then everyone can have a happy spoon.
For my bean stew you only need a few fresh ingredients and in no time the delicious lunch is already prepared.
- green beans
I’ll take fresh green beans. But you can also use the frozen version when beans are out of season.
You can also replace the spicy meatballs with Viennese sausages.
You can serve the stew with a dollop of crème fraîche and optionally season with fresh savory, parsley and pepper. But in my opinion, the stew without herbs and spices is just right.
This is how you prepare the simple bean stew
First of all, chopping is the order of the day! Dice the bacon and onion, peel the carrots and potatoes and then cut into cubes. Cut the beef ends into slices. Wash the green beans well, then remove the ends and cut the beans in half.
Now heat the butter in a large saucepan. Add the bacon, onions, carrots, potatoes and meatloaf and stir-fry for 5 minutes. Then fold in the beans and deglaze everything with the meat stock. Bring the stew to a boil and for Let simmer for 20 minutes.
The stew with green beans tastes wonderfully spicy and is a popular autumn meal.
