Napoli are scheduled to play the second leg of the last 16 of the Champions League against Barcelona at Camp Nou on Sunday (09/08/2020) early morning hrs. At the first meeting that took place in San Paolo, both teams played equally 1-1.
UEFA decided to continue to hold the second leg match Barcelona vs Napoli at the Blaugrana headquarters. This apparently ignited the pros and cons, given the Corona virus transmission rate in the city of Barcelona has increased again.
Especially from the results of the latest tests conducted by Spanish clubs, there have been three positive players including Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz. Mariano even had to be absent when Madrid travel to Manchester City in the Champions League.
Therefore it is natural that Napoli are concerned with the existing conditions and ask for the match against Barcelona to be moved to Portugal, namely in Guimaraes or Oporto. Both cities are claimed to be safe.
Hearing Napoli’s request, the Director of Health of the city of Catalunya, Josep Argimon, considered it far-fetched. Argimon ensured that Barcelona was declared safe to hold a match by UEFA.
“We already said that Barcelona is safe, that’s all. The question was asked by UEFA to all cities where the match was held. So I was surprised by the current commotion,” Argimon was quoted as saying by ESPN.
A similar statement was made by the Spanish government through the Salvador Illa Ministry of Health. He acknowledged positive cases of COVID-19 increased to 60 percent in the Catalunya region, but the same thing also happened in several European countries because now it is indeed a pandemic.
“Indeed an increase in the number of cases in Barcelona worrying because of the population. But what happened in Spain also happened in all countries in our continent. This is a pandemic. We remain vigilant and act according to direction. “Most cases in Spain can be handled well,” Illa said related to the potential health threats in the match Barcelona vs Napoli.
