The infectious disease specialist at the Medical University of Vienna, deputy medical director and epidemic doctor at the University Hospital General Hospital (AKH) Florian Thalhammer referred to the effectiveness and reliability of the Russian corona vaccine “Sputnik V” in an interview with the “Kronen Zeitung”.

“‘Sputnik V’ is like a Kalashnikov, this Russian submachine gun: simple, robust and effective,” said Thalhammer, who also holds the office of President of the Austrian Society for Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine (ÖGIT).

He pointed out that “promising data” on the Russian vaccine had been published in a well-respected journal. The fact that different virus vectors are used for the first and second vaccination increases the effect.

With “Sputnik V” the Russian Ministry of Health registered the world’s first vaccine against Covid-19 in August. The vaccine was developed by the Gamaleja Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Russian Ministry of Health, with the support of the Russian Direct Investment Fund. The serum was developed based on a well-researched and reliable platform from human adenoviruses.
