The infectious disease specialist at the Medical University of Vienna, deputy medical director and epidemic doctor at the University Hospital General Hospital (AKH) Florian Thalhammer referred to the effectiveness and reliability of the Russian corona vaccine “Sputnik V” in an interview with the “Kronen Zeitung”.
He pointed out that “promising data” on the Russian vaccine had been published in a well-respected journal. The fact that different virus vectors are used for the first and second vaccination increases the effect.
The renowned medical journal “The Lancet” had previously published the interim analysis of the results of the phase III studies of the vaccine “Sputnik V” with a peer review. The Russian vaccine showed an effectiveness of 91.6 percent and offers complete protection against severe cases of the novel coronavirus infection.
