On the remaining working day of the 55th ASEAN International Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) held from August 2 to 5, the bloc manufactured daring, floor-breaking conclusions amid very risky geopolitical developments in the region.

This was apparent in a joint communiqué released on Friday, which contained a calibrated warning for Myanmar.

Divisions within ASEAN around the dealing with of the Myanmar coup disaster had formerly led to tense discussions and raised anticipations that the subject would be outlined in the communiqué, which was promised. In his opening remarks on Wednesday, ASEAN chair Cambodia reported the bloc would have to “rethink” its peace plan or be “hostage” to the revolt of the junta-led country.
