Arsenal FC wins FA Cup against Chelsea: At the last minute to Europe

Arsenal have won the FA Cup for the 14th time. In the empty Wembley Stadium in London, the team of coach Mikel Arteta won 2-1 (1-1) against city rivals Chelsea FC. Chelsea met Christian Pulisic (4th minute), the two goals for Arsenal scored Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (28th and 68th).

By winning the title, the Gunners still qualify for the Europa League. In the Premier League, the team ended the season in eighth place after major problems in the first half of the season.

Arsenal defended passively in the early stages, barely attacking the ball-bearing opponent and was punished for it: After a cross pass from the left, Olivier Giroud extended in the penalty area with the outside instep to Pulisic, who initiated the attack himself and took the lead from a short distance ( 5.). Shortly thereafter, the American fired the next dangerous shot, but Martínez prevented the 2-0 for the blues.

The equalization would have been almost in the 25th minute when Nicolas Pépé took the ball directly into the corner, but his teammate Ainsley Matiland-Niles had previously been sidelined. Immediately afterwards, Aubameyang prevailed in a long flying ball behind Chelsea’s defense against César Azpilicueta, who tore the Gabonese from his feet in the penalty area. The foul turned the penalty due into the right corner (28th)

Bad luck for injuries and expulsion for Chelsea

For Azpilicueta it didn’t go much further, because of a thigh injury the blues captain was replaced by ex-Gladbacher Andreas Christensen (35.). After the restart, Pulisic had the opportunity to take the lead again, but injured himself in the sprint with the ball on his right thigh, causing his shot to miss the goal and he then had to be replaced (49.).

The second half was fairly balanced without many chances until Arsenal’s right-back Héctor Bellerín sprinted through the center. Christensen broke in between, but the ball landed at Pépé, who delayed shortly and then played on the left to Aubameyang. After a nice catch, he overcame Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero (68.) from close range to 2-1.

Shortly thereafter, Mateo Kovacic saw his second yellow card for a foul on Granit Xhaka, Chelsea were only ten. The team of coach Frank Lampard did not succeed much in short. In the 80th minute, substitute Tammy Abraham might have finished free, but Arsenal goalkeeper Martínez came out of his goal and picked up the ball with his hand. In the TV picture it looked like Martínez had done it outside the box. However, the scene was not checked and the game continued.

In added time, Chelsea lost another player. Attacking man Pedro had to be treated for a long time after a collision and even ventilated. At first nothing was known about his state of health.
