Apple announced that production of the new ones will begin Mac mini in the Houston (Texas) factory, where the servers used for AI functions are already being built. The decision is related to the promise to invest 600 billion dollars in the United States over the next four years. But it is also a way to avoid the tariffs (current and future) introduced by Donald Trump.
Mac mini in the US, but Asia is the main source
The new Mac mini with M5 and M5 Pro chips will be announced in the coming months. Until now, almost all Macs were produced in Asian factories (China, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand), with the exception of the Mac Pro (which may be eliminated from the catalog), made in Austin, Texas. The small desktop computer is produced in smaller quantities than MacBooks, but sales have recently increased thanks to the popularity of OpenClaw.
The largest number of new Mac minis will still come from factories in Asia. A small part will be produced in the Foxconn factory in Houston (Texas) starting from the end of the year. The CEO Tim Cook stated:
Apple is deeply committed to the future of American manufacturing, and we are proud to significantly expand our presence in Houston with Mac mini production starting later this year. We began shipping advanced AI servers from Houston ahead of schedule and are excited to further accelerate this work.
As mentioned, the same factory produces the AI servers installed in data centers in the United States. Apple will eventually open the Advanced Manufacturing Center in Houston, offering hands-on training in advanced manufacturing techniques to students, supplier employees and American companies of all sizes.
The production of Mac minis in Texas is one of Apple’s commitments to the Trump administration. Between February and August 2025, the Cupertino company has promised investments for 600 billion dollars in four years.
Starting in early March, Apple will announce new MacBooks. The first models with schermo OLED touch 14/16 inch and M6 Pro/Max chips should arrive by the end of the year. According to Mark Gurman (Bloomberg journalist), in the center of the top part of the screen there will be a Dynamic Island similar to that of iPhones.
