Ananda Lewis, a prominent MTV video jockey from the late 1990s who bravely shared her journey with breast cancer, has passed away at the age of 52.
The news of Lewis’s death was confirmed via a Facebook post by her sister, Lakshmi Emory. In 2020, Lewis publicly announced her stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis. At the time, she released a video urging women to prioritize early detection through regular mammograms.
In a 2020 Instagram post, Lewis emphasized, “I need you to share this with the women in your life who might potentially be as stubborn as I was about mammograms and I need you to tell them that they have to do it. Early detection, especially for breast cancer, changes your outcome. It can save their life.”
Lewis began her career with MTV in 1997, quickly becoming a recognizable face as a VJ. She hosted popular shows like Total request Live and Hot zone. In 2001, she launched her own talk show, The Ananda Lewis Show, which aired until 2002. Later, she joined The insider, a spin-off of Entertainment Tonight, as a correspondent from 2004 to 2005. In 2019, Lewis returned to television as the host of the TLC revival of While You Were Out.
