Members of The Yale Whiffenpoofs 2022
The oldest history of the American university a cappella group formed in 1909
Every year, members of the Whiffenpoofs, the world’s oldest university a cappella group, are selected from among the fourth-year students at Yale University, a prestigious university in the American Ivy League. “Whiffs”, which began in 1909 with five fourth graders gathering weekly at Yale’s famous bar “Mory’s” as a quartet to perform songs, is now the most traditional activity on campus. It is one of.
5 of the first members
— More than 100 years ago, one night in New Haven, a town in Connecticut where frost pierces the skin, five glee club members escaped the cold and Mollies (Mollies Temple). Gathered at the bar). Luis Linder, a well-known music lover at the bar, warmly welcomed five people. Four of these five were quartet quartets selected from the Glee Club and performed their singing voices at numerous graduate events. They hated limiting themselves to public performances and began to meet weekly at this Mollies to create harmonies with songs they really liked. This gathering soon became a tradition for singers.

Today, The Yale Whiffenpoofs is made up of 14 fourth-year students from Yale University who are auditioned each year to add new arrangements to their long-held repertoire and perform. While taking a year off from school, the members will show the harmony to many people while traveling around the United States in the first half and around the world in the second half. The arrangement based on jazz and the singing voice of 14 people have produced many fans in various places.
The Whiffenpoofs Song
To the tables down at Mory’sto the place where Louis dwells
(At Mollies’ table, where Lewis is)
to the dear old Temple Bar we love so well
(To our favorite old temple bar)
sing the Whiffenpoofs assembled, with their glasses raised on high
(The Whiffenpoofs gathered and raised the glass at the highest)
and the magic of their singing casts its spell
(The magic of their song casts that spell)
The origin of this Whiffenpo of Song came from 1907 when two members took a winter tour of the Glee Club.
I was playing with a funny parody of the poem “Gentleman Rankers” by the English novelist Radyard Kipling. After that, at Mollies, this became their theme song, “Every time we get together, we always stand up and sing with respect.” Even now, more than 100 years later, the song, which is always sung at the end of the concert as a proof of tradition, is covered by various artists such as Rudy Valley, Bing Crosby, Elvis Presley and Louis Armstrong.
History of coming to Japan
The history of The Yale Whiffenpoofs in Japan began in 1982. The committee secretariat, host families and all other volunteers continue to work. The grassroots activity of young people, who are the true bridge between Japan and the United States, is now one of the most traditional visits to the Whiffenpoofs world tour.
Staying in Japan, which has a history of 40 years, is a very cozy and humane experience where each member stays at a homestay. In Japan, with the help of host families and many other people who support the concert, Whiffs creates a huge summer storm every year and travels to the next country.

[Comments from the organizer]
We are making preparations so that more people can enjoy the music of Whiffenpoofs while giving consideration to measures to prevent the spread of infection. In the last few years, lifestyles have changed drastically, and many people may be facing a situation where it is difficult to take time to relax. In addition, the chances of listening directly to the performances of overseas artists are decreasing. We would like you to spend a rich time with the supreme harmony of Whiffenpoofs.
