The Ángela Peralta Theater was the scene of a night of chills and psychological terror with the presentation of the acclaimed play “El Teatro del Terror”, starring the leading actor Alejandro Camacho and produced by Gabriel Varela. This impressive show was presented within the framework of the Mazatlán Cultural Festival 2025, leaving an intense and shocking experience in the audience.
The work distances itself from superficial terror to delve into the depths of human and three-dimensional fear. Although inspired by the master of mystery Edgar Allan Poe, the staging fuses this vision with elements of HP Lovecraft’s cosmic horror.
The actor Alejandro Camacho has pointed out that the true terror that the work explores resides in the human being, in “the most cruel, ruthless and treacherous miseries” that lie in the soul and are found within our mind.
Gabriel Varela’s production was a sensory and impactful experience that managed to break down the fourth wall, making the audience observe and feel part of the nightmare through a careful combination of theatrical special effects, precise lighting design and immersive sound ambiance.
The show, considered a precursor of the genre in Mexico, was a resounding success at the festival. The audience reacted with a mixture of fascination and fear, feeling fear and allowing their imagination to take over, just as the stage proposal intended, which at its conclusion gave way to loud applause from the audience in recognition of the extraordinary performance of actor Alejandro Camacho.
