The city of Offenbach continues to struggle with rising corona infections. A new warning level was exceeded on Sunday. The city probably wants to forego drastic measures for the time being.
The number of corona infections has continued to increase in the city of Offenbach. According to the Robert Koch Institute, 35.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants were registered within seven days on Sunday. Offenbach has thus exceeded the second warning level and reached phase 3 of the state government’s escalation concept.
From 35 new infections, another bundle of measures from the deployment plan drawn up by the Ministry of Social Affairs takes effect. Steps such as stricter contact restrictions and closings are possible. The integration of the Covid-19 planning staff from the Ministry of Social Affairs is also expected.
City is working on measures concept
Offenbach’s Mayor Felix Schwenke (SPD) told HR on Sunday that the measures to be expected should have no impact on the economic situation: “We will not close any factories or companies.” However, he takes the situation very seriously. It is important to take measures that are appropriate in good time.
Schwenke has not yet been able to say exactly how these will look. The city plans to issue a statement on current developments on Monday. Among other things, suggestions from the regulatory and health office would be discussed in the administrative staff, said Schwenke.
For the previous phase of the escalation concept, in which Offenbach was still on Saturday, the state concept relies in particular on informing the citizens. The city also passed stricter rules for sporting events and catering.
On Friday, the warning level of 20 cases in Hesse was exceeded in the city of Offenbach with 21.6 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days for the first time. On Saturday there were 29.9 cases.
Risk of infection from vacation trips
In a message he published on Instagram on Saturday evening, Mayor Schwenke mentioned, among other things, travel returnees as the cause of the increased number of infections. There is a “slight focus” on the Balkans. He sees no reason for an immediate shutdown. Schwenke appealed to refrain from all contacts that were not necessary.
In addition, according to the city of Friday, there was a second outbreak, a bus trip to visit a cheese factory in the Netherlands. In addition, according to health department head Sabine Groß (Greens), there are increasing cases in which the origin of the infection is unknown.
Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis reaches warning level
The Rheingau-Taunus district also exceeded a threshold with Sunday’s figures. According to the RKI, 21.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants were counted within a week.
Multi-level escalation concept
The Ministry of Social Affairs’ approach to curbing local coronavirus outbreaks involves several stages:
- Up to 20 new infections There are no more stringent measures per 100,000 inhabitants within a week.
- From 20 new infections increased attention, increased duty to provide information and customized measures apply.
- From 35 new infections stricter contact restrictions apply again. Companies and facilities in which the corona virus has occurred are closed. Additional hospital beds are created.
- From 50 new infections There are extensive restrictions: facilities and businesses must be closed, meetings prohibited and public transport also restricted.
- From 75 new infections In addition, the crisis department of the Ministry of Social Affairs takes over the control of the measures.
